When Should You Pack Your Hospital Bag?
Packing your hospital bag will be on your third-trimester to-do list. Although it is a task that you do not want to procrastinate on. Once you hit that 30-week mark, the countdown is on for your due date!
It’s a good idea to start packing your bag around 30-35 weeks. In the last couple of months, baby can make their debut at any time, and you want to be prepared.
You’ve packed all your toiletries and cute outfits for your new baby. Now what are you going to wear?
What To Wear Immediately After Giving Birth
When you arrive at the hospital and get checked in, the hospital staff will supply you with a hospital gown you will wear through labor and delivery. I am sure you have heard or you already know, but hospital gowns are not comfortable or cute, but they do the job.
After birthing your baby, it is such a good feeling to get out of that yucky gown and put on something more comfortable.
If you are exhausted after the many hours of labor and didn’t get any sleep or ended up giving birth very late at night or super early in the morning, It can be hard to want to muster up the energy for a shower immediately after birth, and that’s ok!
For those reasons, I suggest these easy basics to keep you comfortable and relaxed to bond with your baby while exhausted.
Nursing Sleep Bra
Depending on your preference, you can wear a nursing bra under your hospital gown through labor and delivery, or you can put it on after giving birth. There are different types of bras to wear, but for your comfort through your labor and delivery journey, I recommend wearing a sleep nursing bra.
Sleep bras don’t have the uncomfortable elastic underneath or the back clasps to bother you. They have ticker arm straps for comfort and an easy opening front for nursing and skin-to-skin.
Fuzzy Grip Socks
Cozy socks are essential for your hospital stay, and grips are very important. You don’t want to accidentally slip on those cold hard hospital room floors.
Maternity Nightgown
An easy pullover nursing nightgown is comfortable and hassle-free. After all, you just endured birthing a human and just want comfort and ease. These nightgowns have access in the front for nursing and are very cozy.
Nightgowns are also the best during your postpartum recovery. The less restricting clothes, the better!
A Robe
Packing a robe in your hospital bag is a do not forget item. Depending if you’re giving birth in the summer months or winter will determine if you pack a warm or light robe.
Many moms also love packing a cute mommy and mini matching robe and swaddle for those wonderful first photos for social media.

What To Wear During Your Hospital Stay
It is very common to stay in the hospital for 2 to 3 days after the birth of your baby, so you will want to pack enough postpartum outfits for your stay. It is a good idea to pack an extra outfit as well, in case you have an extended stay.
Once your newborn has arrived and you’re all settled into your room with the baby, that first shower after birth feels fantastic! Especially followed by putting on some cute and comfortable maternity wear and then getting in some much-needed sleep and cuddles with your new bundle of love.
Easy Access Pajamas
When it comes to what to wear all day at the hospital, it’s a great choice to opt for something easy, comfortable, and cute. You will be lying around, relaxing all day with your little one. You will also be napping and watching some TV (although the channel selection kind of stinks).
The most important factor is comfort and easy access for nursing. Because girl, after birthing a baby and spending time in a hospital, the best gift you can give yourself is comfy clothes. Think soft and stretchy material.
Hair Ties or Head Bands
There’s nothing more annoying than hair in your face while you’re delivering your baby or learning how to nurse. Tie those beautiful locks up with some hair ties or a headband.
These headbands keep you looking cute for those photo’s your partner will take while you’re delivering your baby or right after you just gave birth.
Nursing Bras
While it’s up to you if you want to continue wearing the sleep bra throughout your stay, another great option is a daily-wear nursing bra. These bras have a little more support and shape to them.
You will be using these bras throughout your breastfeeding journey, so it’s also an excellent option to have one in your hospital bag. That way, you have more maternity clothing options.
Slip-On Shoes
Depending on your personal preference, you can also opt for slippers. The motto is, of course… something comfortable. Be good to yourself and spoil yourself a little for the hard work you just endured.
You will be using these shoes during your stay at the hospital but can also use them when leaving the hospital.
Using the same shoes to leave the hospital will save space in your hospital bag. It’s helpful to leave room in your bag since you will bring home some postpartum essentials the hospital will provide you with.

Shower Shoes
Shower shoes are a must when you need to shower at the hospital. The biggest reason is safety from slipping. Giving birth really takes a lot out of you, so if you’re a little out of it or a little unbalanced, it’s safest to use shower slippers.
Postpartum Underwear
Maternity underwear is an optional item. Some women like to wear high-waisted underwear with a pad instead of mesh underwear with a pad that the hospital provides. Still, it is more of a personal preference.
In any case, make sure they are comfortable underwear that are high-waisted and not too tight. The best use of postpartum underwear is about 2 weeks after birth when the bleeding has slowed down, and you are able to swap for lighter period pads.
